New Cube World Video: Spirit System
I made a new short video demonstrating the spirit system that I described earlier.
wow. this is looking great. my thoughts are that this game should be mainly based on combat. If you add more CRAZY attacks and that...hmm how do i say it?...... well if you have the enemies take maybe longer to kill depending on how the player is fighting. say the player comes in and is jumping around knocking the enemies back and preforming amazing attacks. each attack shouldnt be a swing of a weapon. it should alternate. like maybe a double spin if you get __ combos. and then there id where youre character can parry so there can be crazy combat based off of strategy that will give the player a differnet experience in each fight. THATS WHAT YOU WANT!!! you want to have the player be able to get a different fight experience each time. if the player goes in to a fight and all they have to do is stand in the middle of a group of enemies and click the left button a couple of times. You should have the player make different attacks each time so that the player can knock back the enemie and keep chasing them and destroying them with a defferent attack each time. Sorry it took me so long to explain but this is what i would like to have in this game.

Could u make it so that each kind of enemy populates different biomes, eg; Lizardmen = swamps, Dwarves = mountains AND (there's a big "and" there) can u make it so u can still find those other creatures in other biomes, but they're rare and in groups. Like an adventuring party of dwarves in undead turf. If they see Undead, they attack them!
I do not know if it already exists, but I think we should put the equipment in order to make possible mining, harvesting ... I think that to have them there should be people, and when you kill them, they provide working tools. The resources collected, can be used for the construction of buildings, weapons and armor, and the improvements for all this. For the construction of objects, we can found villagers that make construction of objects,as for buildings. Also, I do not know if this could be possible, but it should be able to build his own village. For that, the villagers arrive in the village if the building is acceptable to him. Put as the possibility to bargain, to buy potions, mushrooms, equipements... with a marchand.
And finally, I like to tested this game for the bugs, and for give more ideas
GREAT! I no longer have mixed feelings about the new combat system anymore now that there's dodging.. This video made me ask, is there like a type of lock on system together with the combat system?
Is there peaceful creatures , like pigs, chickens , cows? It will look kinda awful if you keep running into hostile mobs.. anyway , Great game dude! :D
Ive kept up with the progress of this for the last few weeks, and I love your new spirit system. :O Augmenting your weapon in such a way is seemingly like a more...direct...form of enchantment. I would however like to see spirits gain an...alternative use in magic. A leveled magic user with many spirits destroying mountains and summoning meteors, in stead of simply a buffed fireball or lightning bolt. Just something to consider when you get about inplimenting magics. ^.~
Im sort of hoping for a lot of mob on mob interaction, but only if you can see so there aren't random stuff on the ground :D itd be cool to watch a troll kill a bunch of lizardmen before turning on you.
Is there going to be some limit on the number of cubes you can attach to weapons? It seems like their amounts should be limited by the level of the weapon (unless the spirit cubes themselves have levels, in which case unlimited is fine). Lastly, will there be some way to remove cubes? Possibly with a chance of losing them, or at monetary expense.
Yay! Undead is playable race! This will be my first character :). I like the idea of spirit system. There should be also something like perma-lighting content for armor. That would be awsome during the night!
I think this system will be implemented during next phases. For now it is rather for testing and also for people watching these videos - to show them, what sort of creatures/NPCs have been already created.
You can lock on to a target. If you do so, the level and name is displayed on top of it and the player automatically turns towards the target. The camera is still controlled with the mouse.
Just wondering, will you be able to upgrade bows in the same way? And if so, what would their finisher be? Shooting 3 arrows possibly? Or an elemental shot of whatever spirits are on the bow?
I wanted to add just different resistances to certain races. But your idea is great and I think I'll add something like 'affinity': Each race has a different affinity for a certain spirit. This increases both the resistance against this spirit and the offensive effect.So undead will get unholy affinity, dwarves earth affinity, frogmen water affinity, elves nature affinity etc.
Do you know the game Spore? It has a nice way to organazise social interactions.
A reputation system that depend on the way you are (if you do missions, if you fight against people...)

The civilization have differents philosophie (missions could depend on these philosophies,, plus the "normal missions" as kill goblin, look for an arctifact):
-> here are the differents philosophies inspired by Spore
-Menestrel (Funny people, live for jokes and music)
-Ecologist (Protect nature defend rare species, people who want to destroy it have to be exterminated)
- Fanatic (Live for their faith, people have to approve the way they think)
- Diplomatic (They negociate, for them the peace come from a dialogue between civilizations)
- Scientist (The scientists have a logical and rational mind, the world has to be understood)
-Negociant (Negociant is above all speculateur, live for money)
- Warrior (They make their own laws, they never ask for authorization: the world belongs to the one who is the strongest)
- Tramp (They love the idea of discovery, the exploration is what they love the most)
- Knight (They fight for the good of all citizens. They will stop when the evil will disappear)
About 17,000 people have viewed your profile, which means there is at least 16,500 people want to play alpha, and I am guessing that at least 16,000 people would pay to get in. that’s 16,000+ people that would play this game non-stop testing it for bugs. At a 5$ to get into alpha testing you could make 80,000$ relatively quickly, at a 10$ to get into alpha testing you could make 160,000$ relatively quickly, and at a 15$ to get into alpha testing you could make 240,000$ relatively quickly and so on. Not to mention how many people would tell their 300+ Facebook “friends” about the game.

Make them "attack" when you use a touch. One blue fairy make freeze and lossing life of an opponnent. Green make an opponent fight for you during 5-6 seconds
pls make a lizard/reptile/dragon/draconian playable creature/character. pls pls =) and the spirit system looks awesome, but i wonder, can you remove blocks so that you could make a totaly red or green sword (a lightsaber=))? or something like a poison dagger? and is there a chance that there will be spears/halberds? maybe to be used whit a shield.
Absolutely love the style you've developed with Cube World and the extra mile you're going with features like weapon customization. That's really cool, and will no doubt have most of your players addicted immediately ;)
Looking forward to playing it, and seeing how else deformable terrain plays into the game. It was cool when the ogre in the last combat video knocked holes in the ground--voxels are just perfect for that stuff.
Will placing cubes be a required aspect to upgrade your weapon? I wouldn't want to continue adding cubes just to increase power(?) if I like how the weapon looks as it is.
In a previous video, you equipped a pair of shoulder guards. Will we also be able to place cubes there, or will cube placement be exclusive to weapons and shields?
Will we be able to build things from scratch via template?

I think that many aspects of current system is still under consideration. This is pre-alpha version - (almost) everything is still in development - nobody can really say, how is this or that going to be used.
I would like to see system of upgrades with more possibilities how to improve the equipment. For example chance not only to add some special spirit cubes, but also replace original parts by them - that should solve your "problem with adding" :).
I know this isn't related to spirit but have you thought of a vampire race or something like what I am thinking about? In the Suns light they cause less damage, slightly weaker resistance to damage, lower jump height, etc etc. But then in the dark they get a bit of night vision, slightly higher jump than other classes, a bit more damage done on enemies, etc. But the buffs in the dark would be balanced by the de-buffs in the light making the character have to think a bit more strategically during the day?
This is so impressive, I am lost for words and going to follow your blog! I actually want this game now, it looks so impressive!! Is this going to cost or will it be free? How on earth did you make this, what skills do you need because I have always wanted to make my own game but as a hobby more than anything!
My Ideas 1. You should add skills, it seems like a fast-pace game for it 2.You should vehicles- Wood boats,Hot air balloons,ETC 3.You could add these secret places like if in a castle there's a 20% for it to have a basement or "dungeon" 4.SHOPS! YOU NEED SHOPS BRO! which would mean you need a money system, but you could get the money from humanoid enemies or quests 5.Farming, you could get seeds from birds,Quest, and shops (4th idea if you want to make them) Hopefully these will help you, my 6th was going to be seasons but i thought that would be to much work. I THINK YOUR DOING GREAT ON THIS PROJECT!
It's cool and all that there are new playable races, but are we still gonna be able to customize the new races? Like I'm finding it hard to see how we could customize the orcs and undead...
I think the number of cubes is equal to the level of the weapon, ex, sword + 40 means there is 40 blocks on the sword? I'm just guessing though, but from how they the sword looked, it seems right.
I'd be interested to see if he adds things like mining and other things like lumberjacking, things like that, I'd be interested to see how it'd work out, the consept of adding to oyur weapon as it upgrades in very nice, would give a real sence of growth to your character, other then leveling up of course. Though being the rpg freak I am, I'd like to see a stats screen, but thats just me, I like seeing the numbers go up as I level, like "Ooooh, the number increase as I level!" *insert derpy smilly face here* kind of thing, I just go braindead with games with stat screens and grind for hours just to watch the number increase...
With every new update, the game looks better and better. Give us a beta already!! :D
Anyways, asking for the obvious aside: If you have say, fire and ice spirits, will they cancel each other out? Or other elements that won't work together, making you end up with a useless weapon if you're not careful?
This game is showing all sorts of potential. Is there an over arching goal in the game like a final end boss (or bosses). Beyond just having fun, what is the motivation to explore and level up? I'm not being critical, just asking.
I will make a beta version wollay pro staff i see the game that's so encrivel can do more than Suceso minecarft po ae releases or make a gameplay 30 to 10 minutes but just wanted to say amazing game and qo.
For weapon customization so as to keep it a sword or a mace etc. u should have a core shape and size that cant be re-customized but other than that u should be able to make wat u want
would be awesome if there was an implementation of an old stylish rifle. Melee has 3 weap types so far why cant range have more then 1 :) Rifles may do more damage then bow and arrow yet it is slower to load, or something like that would be awesome

In combination with knock-back an increased weapon range would be overpowered (I tested it already).

aww =( Would be really cool if knock back and + range were stats, so you could like have one of them and upgrade it just like the sword
And yes, you can also add spirits to bows.
I'm still thinking about a good finisher. Maybe a shot which results in an elemental explosion which affects all enemies in range.

How many types of spirits can you put on a piece of equipment? Will you be restricted to one type or will we be able to add as many as you like?

Wollay, what are the races so far? Is it only dwarf, elf, undead, orc, human, and frogmen? I'm guessing lizardman is there, are there more races?

You should add village invasions. like if you stay in a village for some time the village gets attacked by dwarves or lizardmen

Hey wollay you should also implement a dps meter to keep track of dps/second, also other stats like play time, enemies defeated / races killed etc.
...not to mention Notch's inevitable tweet...
